James was born at Northam 2nd Aug 1886, first child of Elizabeth Ann (Eliza) Watson and William John Screech.
James joined the AIF on 7th May 1916, Regimental No 2395. He served in France and was wounded twice in action. He was sent to the Graylingwell War Hospital. He died there suddenly 24th May 1918 and is buried at Chichester Corporation Cemetery.
